From the  Desk of the City Manager

May 2024

As many of you know, the City of Gallipolis lost our City Manager, Dow Saunders on April 22, 2024. Dow loved the city and strived to bring the City of Gallipolis forward in many aspects and took pride in his position as City Manager. Dow loved being involved in the many different organizations and took pleasure in lending a helping hand wherever he could. We, as a city and a community, will greatly miss him.

As many of you may have heard, the City of Gallipolis has recently been awarded 9 MILLION DOLLARS THRU THE APPALACHIAN COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM for Riverfront Improvements. This is a Grant that Dow worked tirelessly on. He had such passion for the Riverfront and Streetscape and an enormous vision for this project. Some of the improvements will include: The downtown historical district in Gallipolis will undergo riverfront and streetscape enhancements, including installing moorings for larger boats and new docks, improving lighting and streetscape amenities, and wayfinding improvements.  We are thankful for Dow’s persistence and diligence with this grant and also thankful to the State of Ohio for this money.

Another project we would like to UPDATE you on is the BURKHART LANE SLIP. We have entered into a Co-op Agreement with Gallia County and Gallipolis Township to apply for Emergency Money to fix this issue. We are pleased to announce that our Co-op has been awarded this money and we can get this slip fixed. We GREATLY appreciate Gallia County and Gallipolis Township for including us in this Co-Op and are appreciative for all of the hard work they completed on our behalf.

THE CITY POOL……. We realize the last few years have been a trying time for all of our swimmers. We are in the process of a major renovation to our filter room. All new equipment has been ordered and due to Supply Chain Issues, some of this equipment is on backorder. We have entered into a contract with Buckeye Aquatics to complete the work. The pool will not, unfortunately, be open on time but we will open as soon as the supplies come in and the work is complete. We will also provide updates as things progress

Dow had many projects in the works and we are still pursuing each and every one.

We ask for your patience as we work through this difficult time
