The Gallipolis City Solicitor's Office serves the dual roles of both Solicitor (prosecutor) and Law Director (civil attorney) for the City of Gallipolis. The Solicitor's Office coordinates the prosecution for all misdemeanors in Gallia County. Misdemeanors can include violations of criminal statutes, traffic statutes, and also administrative code violations such as wildlife and alcohol violations. Some of the more common misdemeanors include thefts of less than $1000, domestic violence, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol, license suspensions, and drug possession. The City Solicitor's Office also defends the City of Gallipolis in civil actions, writes and reviews municipal ordinances and resolutions, gives legal advice to the City Commission, City Manager's Office, and City Auditor's Office, and brings suits on behalf of the citizens of Gallipolis.
The Gallipolis City Solicitor's Office is proud to work with the Gallipolis Police Department, the Gallia County Sheriff's Office, the Gallia/Meigs Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, officers from various Ohio state agencies such as the Division of Natural Resources and Ohio Investigative Unit Division of Liquor Control, and also our counterparts in the Gallia County Prosecutor's Office.
The City Solicitor's Office works every day to provide a safe, stable, and prosperous City of Gallipolis. We appreciate feedback and encourage all citizens to become a part of the legislative process by attending City Commission meetings and also to attend open court sessions at the Gallipolis Justice Center.
