Gallipolis Fire Chief, Keith Elliott, announced today the addition of a new Fire / Rescue truck to their fleet.
Chief Elliott announced on Tuesday, “the Gallipolis Fire Department just received a brand new, 2025 Ford F550 Alexis Mini-Pumper Rescue Truck”. Chief Elliott went on to say “Many Thanks to our City Commissioners, Commission President Mike Fulks, Vice-President Dr. William Thomas, Matt Johnson, Mike Brown and William “Bill” Jenkins; Former Commissioner, William Frazee; City Manager John Westfall; City Auditor Shelly Clonch and especially to our late City Manager, Dow Saunders, who was instrumental in spearheading our 2025 fire truck purchases.
A very special THANK YOU to the Great Citizens of Gallipolis, who faithfully support the Gallipolis Fire Department. We were only able to purchase this truck through the generosity of our citizens who supported and VOTED for the Gallipolis Fire Department's Fire Levy.
This delivery is the first of two new fire trucks scheduled to be delivered the department this year. This mini-pumper will replace our current rescue truck. The second delivery, scheduled for later this year, is for a new Freightliner, Alexis Fire Engine.
Our old rescue truck had been a recovered, stolen 2003 Ford truck, with over 100,000 miles. That truck was recovered by the Sheriff’s Office, and purchased from the County for $1.00. It received an overhaul, a new paint job and has been in service, responding to rescue calls since around 2013.
Our new rescue truck holds 300 gallons of water, 10 gallons of foam, has a full size 1500gpm fire pump, fire hose, as well as state-of- the-art rescue equipment. It can also double as a fire engine should the need arise.
The purchase of this new Rescue truck helps the Gallipolis Fire Department maintain our ISO fire rating of 4. This rating directly affects the cost of homeowner’s insurance for our citizens. A lower rating means a lower insurance rate for our residents. Fire departments are scored on a rating from 1 (being the best) to a 10 (having no fire protection). Due to the hard work of your fire department, we recently lowered our ISO rating from a 5 to a 4.
“Gallipolis is so blessed”, Chief Elliott said, “We have a great City Manager and City Commission that appreciates and understands the importance of having a modern, state of the art fire department and a community that truly supports the fire department and her efforts to save lives and property.”
