FROM THE DESK OF THE CITY MANAGER
Fall has arrived and with the beautiful Fall Season we are still in full swing with multiple projects.
We would like to start with thanking Gallipolis in Bloom for their hard work and dedication in making the downtown beautiful with the flowers. The continuation of this project would not be possible without the countless volunteers that plant these flowers every year. A special thank you to the guys that keep the flowers watered and fed. They were beautiful again this year!
With the arrival of Fall everyone knows it is getting that time for Gallipolis In Lights!! This is something we all look forward to every year. They have started the process of decorating our Park to make it shine for the Holiday Season. A few things may look a little different this year due to the Riverfront Project, but please remember – it is temporary for this year. We are looking forward and are excited for another great year for Gallipolis In Lights in our Park.
Crews with Optimum Cable have been laying Fiber Lines for High-Speed Broadband throughout Gallia County. The process they use is boring for placing these lines underground. This has caused a lot of disruption to our Water and Sewer Lines and we realize this has inconvenienced many of our customers. Please know we are working as quickly as we can to get these issues resolved and have contacted and are working with their Management Team for resolution. We have requested once they start within the City Limits that all Fiber Lines are Aerial to alleviate further disruptions.
The city recently applied for two grants thru OPWC. One for an upgrade at our Water Treatment Facility and one for Street Paving. Each of these grants require a local match of funds and we are exploring ways to increase this match to score higher in points to receive these grants.
We hope everyone is enjoying the new Pickleball Courts that have been completed at the Haskins Park Facility. Along with this project, the Basketball Court is going to be receiving a small renovation as well. A new Acrylic Surface for this court should be complete around the first part of November, if not before.
Due to recent vandalism, a gate has been installed at our Moundhill Cemetery. The gate opens everyday at 8:00am and closes at 8:00pm.
With the Fall Season comes all of the leaves falling. Our Leaf Route will be starting toward the end of October. The schedule for the Leaf Route will be posted on our website and will be starting towards the end of October

Gallipolis (pronounced Gal ′ – a – po – lees ′ ) is a beautiful, small city located on the Ohio River in southeastern Ohio. The name derives from the Latin – “Galli” for Gaul or France and the Greek “polis” for city. It is familiarly known as “The City of the Gauls” and The Old French Settlement.” Settled in 1790 by men and women from France – the group popularly known as the French 500 – it has a rich historical background, much of which has been preserved in the Our House Museum. — Gallia County Historical Society
